NORTH TURNER – The final public supper of the spring season for the North Turner Presbyterian Church will be their traditional ham supper from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Friday, May 20. This supper is usually one of the favorites of those in the community who show their support by attending. The church women will be serving ham, potatoes, salads, vegetables, rolls and desserts. As always, everything is homemade. The handmade quilt being sold in an ongoing silent auction will be on display during the supper.

Proceeds from the five or six public suppers put on by the church are used as part of the operational budget of this small country church and make a big contribution toward keeping the doors open. The support of the community has been great since the church almost closed six years ago.

Volunteers from the church run the Community Clothing Center which opened for the season earlier this month and will remain open through September. The clothing center is open every Wednesday night from 6 to 8 p.m. and is located on the village green on Rt. 219 in North Turner Village.

Church members also staff and manage the town’s food bank which is located in North Turner at the Boofy Quimby Memorial Center on Rt. 219. The food bank is open from 6 to 8 p.m. on the fourth Wednesday of each month or in emergencies if needed.

Proceeds from the suppers help to defray costs associated with these two outreach endeavors as do donations of food and clothing from church members and the community. Anyone wishing to donate good, clean used clothing may do so on any Wednesday night from 6 to 8 p.m. and donations to the food bank may be given to any member of the church or brought to the food bank when they are open.

The remainder of this season’s public church suppers will begin in August with the annual chicken barbecue and end in October with the harvest supper.

Church services are held each Sunday at 9 a.m. and Sunday School is held during the service. The Sunday School will be on summer vacation from the middle of June until the middle of September although some summer activities are in the planning stages.
