NORWAY – The Land Trust will hold the 16th annual Migratory Bird Walk on Saturday, May 21, beginning at 7 a.m. at the parking area at Robert Farm Preserve. The rain date is May 22.

The birding is highly competitive, very fun and educational. Participants should bring binoculars and bird books and dress for weather, bugs, walking and wet footing. Generally about 50 species are identified during the two-hour walk.

While it is increasingly hard these days to anticipate changing climate trends, one can generally depend upon birds to keep to their migratory schedules as their patterns are influenced by daylight hours rather than temperature. For example, even with this year’s cold and damp spring, Bob and Mary Van Nest recorded the annual return of towees to their Norway farm within a day of the 2010 towee return date.
