WAYNE — On Sunday, May 22, master fiddler Greg Boardman will bring his blend of original and traditional Celtic, folk and gospel music to the Ladd Center.

He will be accompanied on piano and vocals by part-time Mojo Mamas band member Jan Gill. The Maranacook String Band will open the 6 p.m. show.

All proceeds from the musical celebration of community and spring will go toward operating expenses for the Cary Memorial Library. 

Boardman, who has been teaching and playing music for close to 40 years, has an extensive repertoire of songs that touch the heart and get toes tapping.  A resident of Auburn, he is the leader of Chase the Fiddlers, a group of musicians associated with Bates College.  He founded A Mighty Cloud of Fiddlers, which performs regularly to raise money for Habitat for Humanity. And, he is no stranger to classical music, playing viola for the Maine Chamber Ensemble.

A graduate of the University of Maine at Augusta with a bachelor’s degree in piano performance, she has played professionally since age 14. She performs in three bands, as well as solo, and teaches music in grades K-5 at Livermore Elementary School. She taught piano for a long time at the Ladd Center.

The Maranacook String Band is directed by educator and bluegrass song maker Stan Keach. Band members Julie Churchill, Sam Bryant, Lee Stetson, Megan Dood and Zach Greenham are students at Maranacook High School. Over the winter, the band has played monthly shows in Mount Vernon. 

The concert will begin at 6 p.m. Tickets are $10 in advance (available at the library in Wayne) and $12 at the door; $5 for children 18 and younger. Doors will open at 5 p.m. Light supper dishes and desserts will be available for purchase.
