WILTON — Some employees at Sykes Enterprises Inc. learned this week that they will be losing their jobs by the end of May.
When contacted Thursday, the worldwide customer service organization based in Tampa, Fla., did not provide the number of layoffs or the number of employees now working at the center at 128 Weld Road.
Andrea Burnett, Sykes director of corporate communications, provided a statement about the pending layoff.
“Market and business conditions are always changing,” Sykes wrote. “As a result, Sykes clients must make decisions that best meet their immediate needs. Sykes must continuously adapt to meet these needs of its clients. Such adaptation may include increasing or decreasing headcount.”
In February 2010, Sykes Enterprises merged with ICT Group, a company formerly based in Pennsylvania.
The local telemarketing service, located in the former G.H. Bass corporate offices on the Weld Road, was opened by ICT in early 1999 to provide support for insurance and financial clients.
Sykes is similar to ICT. The company with 51,000 employees in 24 countries and 80-plus call centers provides a variety of services for clients, but its main focus is financial, communications and technology, Burnett has said.
