FARMINGTON — Polls for the town election of two Selectmen seats and two unopposed RSU 9 school board director seats open at 9 a.m. today despite an April fool storm.
The polls are open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Community Center on Middle Street.
Three candidates, Nancy Porter, Dennis Pike and Jess Berry seek two seats on the Board of Selectmen. The two with the most votes win the seats.
Area schools, state offices and courts are closed for the day.
Regardless, the polls have to open, said Leanne Pinkham, town clerk.
“It’s the luck of the draw,” she said about the potential for a light voter turnout today. “There could be a storm day if the election is held in March.”
The town pushed the annual town meeting from March up to Saturday, April 2, in order to include some current issues on the town warrant. The town meeting begins at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Community Center.
Polls remained open and elections were also moving forward in the towns of Poland, Durham and Turner.
Durham polls are open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Poland’s polls are open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Turner polls were open from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.
