There will be a meeting of the ladies circle of the Thorne’s Corner Grange at the Grange hall Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock to take action in regard to a fair to be held in April. Also a special meeting of the Grange will be held from 7:30 to 8:30 Wednesday evening to receive applications.

50 years ago, 1961

More than 1,200 persons turned out yesterday to welcome home the St. Dominic’s High School hockey team.

The team was escorted from the Maine Turnpike by police and a parade through the Twin Cities featured performances by the Scarlet Cadets, the Pine Tree Warriors and the Jacques Cartier Club Drum and Bugle Corps. The parade included the Pastime Club, Montagnard, and the Acme Club, and was under the direction of Joseph T. Poulin.

More than 40 cars drove in the caravan and members of the team and coaches were in the open cars.

25 years ago, 1986

A 13-year-old Auburn boy was reported in good condition at Central Maine Medical Center early Friday morning after his feet were run over by a train in Auburn Thursday afternoon.

Police said two boys apparently were trying to hop a ride on the moving train behind Jimmy’s Diner on Minot Avenue when the accident occurred.

Police said the train was going between 20 and 25 miles per hour at the time of the accident.
