LIVERMORE FALLS — Police shocked a local man with a Taser gun on Friday after he failed to move away from a sword he had been carrying and submit to arrest, Lt. Thomas Gould said.

A Cumberland Farms’ clerk called police about 5:15 a.m. to tell them a man had come into the store with a sword tucked down his pants, he said.

Officer Eric Bernier responded and found Guner Vicelich, 22, of Livermore Falls walking with a sword blade partially visible from under his jacket, he said.

Bernier approached him, but Vicelich refused to put the sword down, Gould said. He finally did drive the sword into a snowbank, but when Bernier ordered him to move away from the sword, Vicelich didn’t, he said.

Bernier tried to search Vicelich for more weapons, and he continued to resist arrest, Gould said.

Jay officer Nicholas Gulliver responded to assist, and Bernier was able to place a Taser on Vicelich’s skin and shock him, he said.

He was arrested on a charge of violating condition of release.

Vicelich was out on bail on prior charge of possession of stolen property that has a condition that prohibits him from possessing a weapon, Gould said.

Vicelich has a lengthy criminal record that includes convictions of criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon, burglary, disorderly conduct and violating a protection-from-abuse order, according to published court logs in the Sun Journal.

He is being held without bail at the Androscoggin County Jail in Auburn until he goes before a judge, a corrections officer said.
