More than 40 people enjoyed an afternoon of cross-country skiing and snowshoeing at the Kennebec Land Trust’s Curtis Homestead in Leeds on Jan. 23. The land trust sponsors a variety of events throughout the year at the property. Participants, ranging from 5-year-olds to a few people in their seventies, came from Leeds, Wayne, Turner, Winthrop, Lewiston-Auburn and as far away as Clinton. After circuiting one or more of the trail loops, people gathered around the warmth of the bonfire. The Curtis Homestead was settled in the early 1800s and remained in the Curtis family until 2000, when former Maine Gov. Kenneth Curtis and his sister, Rebecca, donated the 360 acres to the Kennebec Land Trust. Currently, the homestead has more than three miles of trails.
