JAY — As of midday Tuesday, only three candidates had submitted nomination papers for the new 13-member school board to oversee Regional School Unit 73. The deadline for filing is Friday, March 4.
RSU 73, made up of Jay and the former RSU 36 towns of Livermore and Livermore Falls, goes into operation July 1.
Its board of directors will be elected Tuesday, April 19. There will be six directors from Jay, four from Livermore Falls and three from Livermore.
Jay Town Clerk Ronda Palmer said that four sets of nomination papers have been taken out, so far, in Jay but only one has been returned. Current Jay School Committee member Darcie Comstock has filed her papers, Palmer said.
Livermore Deputy Clerk Jean Tardif said that two current directors of RSU 36, Chairman Ashley O’Brien and Diane Gould, have returned papers.
In Livermore Falls, no papers had been returned as of midday. One set had been taken out but not returned, sewer clerk Sue Sapiel said.
Several sets have also been taken out from both systems’ superintendent’ offices.
“We hope people will feel free to pick up nomination papers here or at the town offices,” Jay Superintendent Bob Wall said.
Nomination papers are available at all three town offices and both Jay and RSU 36 superintendents’ offices.
