PITTSFIELD (AP) — A Maine family of six is homeless after fire ripped through their Pittsfield home while they were away.

Pittsfield Fire Chief Bernard Williams says the couple and their four children will be staying with a relative.

No one was injured in the fire, which was reported at about 2:50 p.m. Sunday.

About 40 firefighters from Pittsfield, Canaan, Hartland, St. Albans, Newport and Detroit helped extinguish the fire.

Williams tells the Morning Sentinel the fire had a good start before crews arrived. He says the house and all its contents were a total loss.

The cause of the fire has not been determined.
