LYMAN, Maine (AP) — Relatives of a 22-year-old Maine man shot and killed by police say they don’t understand what led him to threaten two York County Sheriff’s deputies with a knife.

The deputies shot and killed Andrew Landry Saturday night after a confrontation at a Lyman home.

Landry’s relatives say he’d never been in trouble with the law and had no history of mental illness.

His bizarre behavior apparently began hours before the shooting when emergency personnel were called to Landry’s home in Sanford after his grandmother found him outside wearing only pants and one sock.

Landry’s aunt, Sharon O’Brien, tells the Portland Press Herald she called the sheriff’s office after failing to persuade Landry to go to the hospital because of his erratic behavior.
