ORONO — University of Maine men’s basketball forward Troy Barnies has been named the America East Player of the Week.

Barnies, a senior co-captain from Auburn, averaged 19.5 points and 10 rebounds in games against Columbia and Boston University last week.

He scored a career-high 25 points to go with 11 rebounds against Columbia while notching 14 points, nine rebounds, three assists and three steals against Boston University. Barnies scored nine-straight points for the Black Bears in a crucial stretch of the second half to lead Maine to a 65-52 win over the Terriers.

Barnies currently leads the team with 11.6 points per game and is fourth in the conference with 7.1 rebounds per game as the Black Bears have won five out of their last six games.

Barnies was also named the NetScouts Basketball America East Player of the Week for his efforts.
