Wallace O. Clement of Auburn ranks 27th among the batters of the Eastern League with an average of .263. Mickey Joyce of Lewiston is quite a ways down the list with an average of .188. Joyce, however, leads Clement among the left fielders with an average of .976. Clement’s average is .956. Joyce is with Montreal and Clement with Jersey City.

Public Works Director George J. Maher said last night the annual city building renovation-repair program probably will get under way next week.

Scheduled to be fixed up this winter are the municipal courtroom and the offices of the city auditor, city treasurer, assessors and industrial development director. The PWD plans to do nearly $1,000 worth of work in these offices, using its own employees.

Out of respect for the memory of a teacher, Lewiston High School will be closed on Thursday to allow faculty and students to attend services for the late Claire-Elaine Bolduc, said Superintendent Robert V. Connors Monday.

Ms. Bolduc began her teaching career in the Lewiston school system in 1962, teaching junior high school French. In the late 1970s, she joined the LHS staff, eventually becoming head of the foreign languages department.
