Editor’s note: We asked readers and staff to share their favorite Christmas memories. Today, “The people I’m most grateful for” and “What I’d buy the world”: screams from the rooftop and shoes for all.

For every little thing

The person that I am most grateful and could not do without is my wife,  Delcia, or Dell, as she insists on being called.

She makes every Christmas special. An example is two years ago when we went to Christmas Eve services at our church. When we arrived the heat was never turned on for the service and it was cold. She went to the car and started emptying blankets and gloves that we had stored in the car for emergencies. She encouraged everyone with her voice during the singing of carols. I would never change a single thing about that evening. After all, when are you encouraged in church to cuddle up close to the person you’re with?

Last year, my wife and I hosted a Christmas party and she brought down the house with her trivia game. I was so proud of her that evening.

Lastly, all my wife wanted for Christmas this year was for me to yell how I feel about her from the rooftops. I am not as young as I once was and fear that a trip to the rooftop could result in a trip to the ER . . .

For making life colorful

Most thankful for: My four children and wife. Without them, there’d be no reason to put the silver tree together and plug in the color wheel.

For transforming a son

I have wonderful Christmas memories. However, I am very, very grateful this year to the staff of Margaret Murphy Center, who have taken my son Lennie and transformed his own attitude about school. We had a rough end to 2009 and start to 2010, and I just kept being the squeaky wheel and finally on Aug. 30 he started there and there has been nothing but positivity since. It is a major blessing in our lives, as this 8-year-old boy was struggling. I need no gifts this year, as my gift is my son’s transformation and his accomplishments. Margaret Murphy Center is our gift this year, and it is the best gift I’ve ever received!

Happy feet

What I’d buy the world, if given the chance: Sneakers, preferably made in Maine by New Balance. When your feet are comfortable, you think more thoughtfully, walk more confidently, and feel better about wherever your bipeds lead.

Really sweet rides

And what I’d buy: The cupcake cars — with matching candy hats — from last year’s Neiman Marcus fantasy Christmas catalog. It’s hard to carry anger when you’re driving a cupcake car.
