POLAND — Key free throws in the third quarter helped Poland sneak away with a 36-32 victory over Old Orchard Beach in WMC girls’ basketball action Tuesday.
Brittina Maheux led the Knights (1-4) with 14 points and 11 rebounds, a stellar effort for the 5-2 guard. Freshman Emily Bolduc chipped in with 11 points in a well-balanced attack.
The winless Seagulls (0-5) were paced by Gillian Foss with a game-high 15 points, while Christina Coleman added eight.
Jay 58, Mt. Abram 48
SALEM — Jay erupted for 21 points in the second quarter and raced away to a 58-48 victory over Mt. Abram in an MVC girls’ basketball tilt Tuesday.
Alana White led the Tigers (3-1) with 16 points, including six in that big second frame. Alexis Blodgett chipped in with 12 points, while Lexi Deering added 10.
The Roadrunners (1-3) were paced by Mikayla Luce with a solid 16-point effort, while Miranda Smith added nine.
Gray-NG 33, Fryeburg 28
GRAY — Trailing by five points after the first quarter, Gray-New Gloucester went on a 15-4 run in the second to take control and went on to post a 33-28 victory over Fryeburg in WMC girls’ basketball action Tuesday.
Veteran Alicia Valente led the Patriots (2-2) with 14 points, while Megan Dehetre chipped in with six.
The Raiders (2-3) were led by Skye Dole with 11 points, while Katie Heggie added 10.
Mountain Valley 42, Carrabec 34
NORTH ANSON — Mountain Valley jumped out to a 10-4 advantage in the first quarter and pulled away to post a 42-34 victory over Carrabec in a MVC girls’ matchup Tuesday.
The Falcons (2-2) were led by Ayla Allen with 19 points, while Chrissy Briggs chipped in with 10 points.
The Cobras (2-2) received 14 points from Becca Bergeron and Melissa White tallied seven.
Medomak Valley 55, Oak Hill 44
WALDOBORO — Trailing by six points after the first quarter, Medomak Valley went on a 22-9 run in the second and steadily pulled away to a 55-44 victory over Oak Hill in a KVAC girls’ tilt Tuesday.
The undefeated Panthers (4-0) were led by William Renquist with 17 points, while Dan Voss tallied 16 and Aaron Christensen added 12.
Maggie Sabine led the Raiders (3-1) with a game-high 19 points, while Jess Roberts tossed in 16 including four from beyond the arc.
Livermore Falls 71, Telstar 21
BETHEL — Livermore Falls applied full-court pressure right from the opening jump to force many turnovers as the Andies soared to a 71-21 victory over Telstar in MVC girls’ basketball action Tuesday.
Junior guard Katherine Ventrella recorded five field goals, including a 3-pointer, and a field goal for a shared team-high 13 points with freshman guard Lidestar Tracy. Tracy had six field goals, including a 3-pointer.
Senior center Cheyanne Day was the leading scorer for the Rebels (0-4) with three baskets for six points.
St. Dom’s 40, Lisbon 20
AUBURN — St. Dom’s was excellent on defense as the Saints doubled up Lisbon 40-20 in MVC girls’ basketball action Tuesday evening.
Senior center Allaina Murphy shot a game-high 17 points, while senior forward Sarah Gosselin recorded a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds for the Saints (2-2). The Saints dominated on the boards.
Senior center Kelsey Linnell connected on four field goals, including a 3-pointer, to pace the Greyhounds (2-2) with nine points in the losing effort.
Leavitt 85, Maranacook 58
TURNER — Sisters Courtney and Kristin Anderson scored 25 points apiece to help Leavitt pour it on en route to an 85-58 victory over Maranacook.
The Hornets (4-0) raced out to a 25-9 advantage after the first quarter and extended the lead to 47-28 and 71-47 after the middle two frames.
Adrianna Newton chipped in with 12 points and six rebounds for the Hornets. Kristin Anderson also had six steals and four rebounds, while Courtney Anderson dished out seven assists. Abbey Randall also had seven assists and Kasidy Stevenson had seven rebounds.
Katie Dore matched the Andersons with 25 points to pace Maranacook (1-3). Hannah Clough chippd in with 14 points.
Mt. Ararat 37, Oxford Hills 30
PARIS — Mt. Ararat used a big third quarter to grab the lead and then hit just enough of its free throws down the stretch for a 37-30 victory over Oxford Hills.
With the Vikings holding an 18-14 lead at the half, Mt. Ararat hit five field goals — as many as the Eagles hit in the entire first half, to take a 26-23 advantage into the final eight minutes.
Mt. Ararat only hit 5 of 13 free-throw attempts in the final quarter, but it was enough to keep the lead.
Crissy Lewis and Alex Rowe led the Vikings with seven points apiece. Mt. Ararat also did not have any player reach double figures.
