RANGELEY — More than a foot and a half of natural snow combined with snow-making prompted Saddleback Maine Ski Resort to announce Friday that it will open for the season on Thursday, Dec. 16.

Until more terrain opens, a special early-season lift ticket price of $35 will be in effect, Marketing Director JoAnne Taylor said in a report.

“The temperatures have been perfect for snow-making, plus we accumulated over 18 inches of natural snow from the most recent storm,” General Manager Chris Farmer said.

“We’re excited for the season to begin,” Farmer said. “Among other improvements, we’ve cut new chutes in Casablanca Glades, which is part of Kennebago Steeps, the largest steep skiing and riding area in the East.”
