PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — There’s good news for Maine snowbirds: The state’s signature drink — Moxie — is now being distributed across Florida.
Designated the official soft drink of Maine, Moxie was invented in 1876 by Dr. Augusten Thompson of Union, Maine, who touted its alleged health benefits. New Englanders took a taste to the quirky bittersweet soda, and there’s an annual Moxie festival held in Lisbon, Maine.
Cornucopia Beverages of Bedford, N.H., owns the rights to this nostalgic brand and has granted distribution in Florida to Florida Micro Beverage Distributors.
