Board: Turner selectmen

Met: Monday night

Wanted: Chairs, table returned

Issue: Town policy doesn’t allow town furniture to be loaned or borrowed. Nonetheless, the building manager of the Boofy Quimby Memorial Center discovered six 6-foot, gray tables and 31 white plastic chairs missing two weeks ago.

The scoop: Three tables have since been returned. The missing property is valued at about $900, Town Manager Eva Leavitt said.

Up next: The items can be returned anonymously before Dec. 1. After that, the town will file a report with the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Department.

Paper crusher coming

Issue: The town has a compactor at the transfer station that used to crush household waste. The machine was replaced with a newer one and the old one was put out of business.

The scoop: The retired machine is getting a second life. The town plans to use it to compact loads of recycled mixed paper, which hadn’t been crushed before.

Up next: Look for it to go online in the spring. Leavitt said sending along heavier loads of paper will save the town money in transit costs.

Wanted: A name

Issue: The vacant lot by the Nezinscot River Dam on the corner of School House Hill Road and Main Street could use a name. The spot is getting benches and recently got a fence.

The scoop: Selectmen considered a few names but didn’t pick one.

Up next: Have an idea? They’re open to your thoughts.
