OXFORD — A New Jersey man was indicted in Oxford County Superior Court on Oct. 15 on charges of trafficking the drugs LSD and ecstasy at the Nateva Festival.

Joseph P. Zappile, 21, of Sussex, N.J., faces two Class B trafficking charges, each punishable by up to 10 years in prison and fines of up to $20,000.

According to a report by arresting officer Holli Pullen of the Norway Police Department, Pullen was patrolling the Nateva Festival with Cpl. Brian Landis and Deputy Christina Sugars of the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office when they came upon Zappile and several other Nateva attendees.

Pullen said she saw marijuana and a “white powder substance,” according to the report. She said Zappile was holding a Marlboro box that he threw to the ground while she told him not to. Pullen handcuffed Zappile and picked up the box, which contained four 1/2-gram baggies and four 1-gram baggies.

Pullen said Zappile told her the bags contained MDMA, also known as ecstasy, and LSD, also called acid. A lab test later confirmed this.

Zappile’s arraignment is set for Jan. 4.
