FARMINGTON — A medical supply company has closed its Farmington branch on Wilton Road.
Mac-Lin Medical opened its Farmington branch in late December 2009 after Farmington Medical Supply, which had served the area for decades, announced it would close by the end of the year. Mac-Lin bought the Farmington business to keep it open to help people in the area get needed medical supplies and equipment, company President Lance Macmaster said previously.
Mac-Lin will still service the entire Farmington area, and customers may either call the Waterville or Bangor branches or order supplies online that can be delivered, Macmaster said Thursday.
One of three employees, a technician at the Farmington store who lives in Farmington, transferred to the Waterville office, he said. The other two employees were laid off, he said.
The closing had nothing to do with the people at the Farmington branch, he said. They were all good, he said.
It closed due to the delay in MaineCare payments from the state for services rendered, which prompted the company to consolidate four stores to two, he said.
“We just need to cut expenses at the moment,” Macmaster said.
Besides the Farmington branch, two stores in Bangor were closed and a new headquarters in the city was opened at 1808 Stillwater Ave., Macmaster said. The Waterville store is located at 146 Kennedy Drive. Contact numbers for the stores are Waterville, 873-6151, and Bangor, 947-5666. The company’s website is www.maclinmedical.com.
