PORTLAND (AP) — The Brunswick Democratic Town Committee is targeting Maine Republican gubernatorial candidate Paul LePage over remarks he made about nuclear power.
On Thursday, the committee unveiled a website targeting LePage’s support of nuclear power. It cited a radio interview before the June primary in which LePage said that 20 years from now he’d like to see a nuclear power plant at the former Loring Air Force Base in Limestone and at the closing Brunswick Naval Air Station.
LePage has said nuclear power should be a part of the nation’s energy mix, but his campaign says the website is distorting LePage’s position.
LePage spokesman Brent Littlefield says the Democrats left out LePage’s comments on other cost-efficient forms of energy as well as the need to rebuild the state’s economy.
