LIVERMORE FALLS — Selectmen agreed Monday by consensus to have a new sewer line extension inspected after it is complete to make sure it meets the town’s specifications before it is accepted.
Larry and Betty Jo Roix of Advanced Quality Homes LLC submitted a proposal to Sewer Department Superintendent Kent Mitchell, Town Manager Jim Chaousis and the Board of Selectmen to extend the sewer line from Brookside Avenue, formerly known as Fiorica Road located off Pomeroy Road, to existing lots owned by Birchwood Land Resources in the Development called Birchwood Estates.
Advanced Quality Homes would bear the initial cost of installing the new portion of the extended line. It would also give the town a right of way to service the line, according to the proposal.
Chaousis told selectmen that Mitchell has given the Roixs the specifications to construct the extension. Both the right of way and line would be deeded to the town at Roix’s cost, Chaousis said.
This is two more sewer users and beneficial to the town, he said.
“I don’t see any problem as long as it is supervised by Kent so it meets the town’s specifications,” board Chairman Bill Demaray said. “I just don’t want, once it is all done, to have a problem.”
Chaousis said Mitchell would inspect the extension.
In other business, selectmen voted to enter into a contract with Overhead Door Co. of Portland for $3,100 to furnish and install electronic openers for four of the highway garage doors. The other door at the garage already has one, Chaousis said.
It is an effort to conserve fuel and reduce heating costs.
The other bidder was Lee’s Garage Door Service Inc. of Dresden for $2,791.84.
The board also agreed to hire a licensed electrician to do the electrical work, which was not included in price. Selectmen said they liked the higher bid because the company would service the door, if necessary, and that the price included two remote transmitters per door for a total of eight. Lee’s had offered a total of six transmitters.
In another matter, Chaousis showed selectmen a new flier that has been developed to guide to entrepreneurs interested in starting businesses downtown. It was a joint initiative between the town, Livermore Falls Downtown Betterment Group, and Greater Franklin Development Corp., he said.
Chaousis also noted that Central Maine Power Co. has begun its $1.4 billion Maine Power Reliability Program to upgrade its power system. Clearing of trees, brush and branches along the existing lines have begun. The results of the company’s investment in town will be added value to the tax base, he said.
