The YWCA has been on my mind a lot lately.
Like many others, I wanted to help, but don’t have a large amount of money on hand to donate — so I have made a monthly pledge. This way the Y knows that
it will have the money to help with planning and I can give more.
Through the years I enjoyed YW activities, mostly at KJ in Auburn, but after retirement I started going to the YW on East Avenue — enjoying aquasize classes three times a week and I know what a difference it makes in how I feel.
It is a very busy and fun place with kids learning to swim, pre-school programs, before- and after-school programs, therapeutic programs and children with special needs enjoying the water activities, as well as Edward Little, Lewiston and St. Dom’s swim teams.
We all should be grateful to the Gendron family for making us realize we
couldn’t let this great community resource close down and, if we all do something to help, the YW will be around for at least 130 years more.
