LIVERMORE – Residents interested in being appointed to the Regional School Unit 36 Board of Directors have until Monday to contact the town.
Selectmen will appoint someone this fall to replace Rod Newman, who resigned in August. The director will serve until the annual town elections next June.
Town administrator Kurt Schaub said he contacted Maine Municipal Association for a legal opinion to see if the town needed to hold an election Nov. 2 or if it could wait until the election next June.
According to MMA, the town needs to follow the Regional School Unit vacancy law.
The law states that “The municipal officers of the municipality in which the director resided shall select an interim director for the municipality or subdistrict to serve until the next annual municipal election,” MMA staff attorney, Susanne F. Pilgrim stated in her information to the town.
