LIVERMORE FALLS — This Saturday is downtown cleanup day.
All volunteers need to bring is work gloves. Those who have a pick-up tool such as a grabber for trash should bring it along. The Livermore Falls Downtown Betterment Group will supply the rest.
Volunteers will meet at the Livermore Falls gazebo behind the town’s municipal building between 7:30 and 8 a.m. on Sept. 18 to take part in the cleanup of Main and Depot streets.
Members of the Betterment Group are hoping many people come out to help get the town looking good for the following Saturday’s Apple Pumpkin Festival from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sept. 25 at the town’s recreation field.
“The Betterment Group wants to make the town more inviting to the several thousand people who attend the festival each year and to show pride in our town,” an organizer, Ken Jacques, said Monday. “Anyone is welcome to pitch in. We hope that all local organizations and individuals come out and take part.”
The plan this Saturday is to clean up from Bailey Bros. Ford Dealership down Depot Street to Main Street up to the Jay line, he said.
There are also plans, if enough people show up, to pick up trash along the Foundry Road Bike/Walk Path that runs along the town’s recreation field, Jacques said.
The town’s public works crew plans to sweep the sidewalks prior to the festival.
“We want people to come to town and see that it looks good,” he said.
Jacques doesn’t expect the cleanup to take too long, maybe two or three hours depending on the number of people who show up.
