FARMINGTON — A local man and woman face drug charges after a Franklin County deputy stopped a vehicle they were riding in Sunday because of a loud exhaust system, Sheriff’s Lt. Niles Yeaton said Monday.

The stop led ultimately to the seizure of a total 24 pot plants and about one-quarter pound of processed marijuana, he said.

Deputy David Rackliffe made the stop about 6 p.m. on Exchange Street, and he smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle, Yeaton said.

Derek M. Beaudet, 23, of Farmington was arrested on a charge of misdemeanor trafficking in marijuana. He was issued a summons on a charge of cultivating marijuana, Yeaton said.

Beaudet was released from a Farmington jail later that evening on $3,000 unsecured bail. He is scheduled to appear at a Farmington court on Nov. 18.

A passenger in the vehicle, Leticia Coleman, 22, of Farmington was issued a summons on charges of possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, he said.

Deputies then went to Beaudet’s residence on Holley Road in Farmington. When Cpl. Ken Charles arrived, there was a vehicle coming from the residence that had pot plants in it, Yeaton said.

Deputies received consent to search the common areas that are shared by those who live there, including a roommate at the residence, he said.

They found some more growing marijuana and paraphernalia including digital scales, Baggies, rolling papers and packaging materials, he said.

The police report will be turned over to the District Attorney’s Office to determine if there will be more charges, Yeaton said.
