LEWISTON — Law enforcement, fire and emergency medical services personnel from across the state will gather here Sunday for a special commemorative Mass to honor their service to the people of Maine.
The annual Blue Mass will be held at 10 a.m. at the Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul on Ash Street. Bishop Richard J. Malone will bestow his blessings upon those who contribute to the public health and safety in the state of Maine.
“This Mass is to thank and pay tribute to those in our communities who serve us every day and often in dangerous situations,” Malone said in a written statement.
Members of these public safety agencies have been invited to attend the Mass in uniform, color guards will be on hand and vehicles representing the departments will be on display around the Basilica.
Family members and the general public are invited to attend this celebratory event. A reception will take place immediately following the Mass in the lower level of the Basilica.
This annual event takes place on the weekend closest to Sept. 11.
Honor Guards will be in place at 9:30 a.m. Bagpipers will play on Basilica steps before and after Mass.
