MECHANIC FALLS — The Mechanic Falls-Minot-Poland Adult and Community Education fall program will begin Sept. 1. The Learning Center is accepting new day and evening students (at least 17 years old) for skill upgrading, high school diplomas and GED testing.

Fall general interest classes require preregistration and include:
Hunter Safety: The State of Maine is offering the opportunity to prepare for a certificate in hunter and gun Safety. State law requires the course for those applying for a first time license. Students must attend both classes and pass a test. Classes will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 15 and from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 25. Fee: $5.
Wildlife Identification: The program will include a presentation about Maine wildlife, their adaptations, habitat and life cycles. Monday, Sept. 20, 7 to 8:30 p.m. Free.
ATV and Snowmobile Education: Students will learn how to properly operate and maintain both an ATV and snowmobile. Exam and 100 percent attendance is required. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, Sept. 27, 28 and 30, 6 to 9 p.m. Fee: $5.
Belly Dance Instruction: Used for exercise, the class is fun but challenging. No experience necessary. Participants should wear comfortable clothes. Fee: $25 for six-week session. Session one will begin Sept. 14; session two, Oct. 26.
Card Embroidery: Create at least two embroidery projects to use as greeting cards or to frame. No embroidery experience necessary. Thursday, Oct. 28, 6 to 8:30 p.m. Bring tape and small scissors. Fee: $8 plus $3 lab fee paid to instructor.
College Financing for Adult Students: Pam Crate of FAME will give an overview of the student financial aid applications process, including scholarship information and career/college planning resources. Wednesday, Oct. 27, 6:30 to 8 p.m. Free.
Digital Camera for Beginners: Participants should bring their digital cameras and will learn the basics of the camera and how to operate it. Monday, Oct. 18, 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Fee: $16.
Fitness For Life: Step aerobics and resistance exercises for tone and strength. Six-week ongoing sessions starting Thursday, Sept. 16, 6:30 to 8 p.m. First class, sign up at 6 p.m. Fee: $25 each session.
Heartsaver CPR/AED: Receive training in cardio-pulmonary resuscitation and the use of an automatic external defibrillator. Monday, Oct. 18, 6 to 9 p.m. Fee: $50, due Oct. 4.
Hormone Rejuvenation: Gain a fuller understanding of your hormones and how to balance them whether you are 16 or 75. Wednesday, Sept. 15, 6 to 8 p.m. Fee: $6.
Jewelry Making from Scratch: Participants will create two pieces of jewelry using glass and polymer beads. Thursdays, Oct. 7 and 14, 6 to 8 p.m. Fee: $40 (includes materials) paid by Sept. 23.
Knitters Night Out: For the person who knows a little about knitting or for the experienced knitter. Four-week ongoing sessions starting Thursday, Sept. 16, 6 to 8 p.m. Fee: $5 each session.
Lyme and Animals: Topics to be discussed include tick identification, control, repellents, natural and other, and Lyme treatment for animals. Thursday, Oct. 21, 6:30 to 8 p.m. Fee: $5.
Notary Public: Learn about becoming a sworn public official with the powers to perform a number of official acts. Wednesdays, Oct. 6 and 13, 6 to 8 p.m. Fee: $10, due by Sept. 22, plus $8 book fee paid to instructor.
QuickBooks Basics: Students will learn to enter accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and how to print reports. Computer literacy is required. Fridays, Oct. 1, 8, 15, 9 to 11 a.m. Fee: $40.
Nutrient Dense Foods for Optimal Health: The class is based on the principles of Dr. Winston Price who studied nonindustrialized peoples and their native diets. Wednesday, Oct. 20, 6 to 8 p.m. Fee: $6.
Simple Scrapbook Pages: Participants will learn techniques for creating scrapbook pages without the sales pitch. Bring six blank pages and adhesive. Monday, Oct. 11, 6 to 8:30 p.m. Fee: $6.
Solar Technologies and Building a Solar Heater: Get information on solar hot air, hot water and electric system technologies. A panel will be on display along with the plans and a parts list. Tuesday, Oct. 12, 6 to 8:30 p.m. Fee: $6.
Yoga for Busy People: Students will practice deep breathing and stretching. Class will end with deep relaxation. Bring a mat and wear loose clothing. Mondays, Oct. 18, 25 and Nov. 1, 4 to 5 p.m. Fee: $15.
