NORWAY — Western Maine Art Group artist William Patrick will show his work, including creations using wax paper, crayons and a hot iron, throughout September at the Norway Savings Bank operations center.

Patrick grew up in the fields and rugged mountains and woods of northern Vermont, New Hampshire and western Maine. This is reflected in his watercolors, from the golds and yellows of a sunrise on the Magalloway to the bright red of Washington County’s autumn blueberry barrens.

Patrick attended Gould Academy in Bethel, served in the U.S. military and later graduated with honors from Norwich University with a bachelor’s degree in engineering.

“Art is half of being an engineer — both solve problems, just using different approaches. You see something that interests you and you want to explore it. I’m always interested in the process. You have the idea, put the first piece of paint on the canvas, and the next thing you know you have a painting. Engineers just do it with physics and math. But for both, you have to be able to see it in your mind first and be able to express that vision,” Patrick said.

This is his first one-man show. The operations center is at 356 Main St.
