HARRISON — The United Parish Congregational Church of Harrison and North Bridgton will sponsor the 27th annual CROP (Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty) Walk on Saturday, Sept. 11. The walk will begin at 9 a.m. at the church, 77 Main St.
Participating walkers get friends and family to support them with donations. Walkers of all ages are welcome and there will be a rescue driver along the way for those who might need a lift. Drinks will be provided at the halfway point and ice cream at the conclusion of the walk. Local businesses have also been generous in support of the project.
Last year, walkers in 2,000 communities participated in CROP Walks in the United States, raising more than $15 million to feed the hungry, protect children, assist refugees and aid families around the world. Twenty five percent of the total raised will be returned to local food pantries and soup kitchens.
In Harrison, the funds will be used for Thanksgiving baskets, which are distributed to 45 families, and for grocery gift cards, given at Christmas.
