The Rev. Gary Pierson, left, and Dennis Knox cook hamburgers and hot dogs during a Kids Unleashed! celebration at Pierce Street Park in Lewiston on Saturday. Pierson is the pastor at Emmanuel Assembly of God in Livermore Falls. The church joined hands with the Root Cellar and Pathway Vineyard Church to provide a fun-filled afternoon for children who live in downtown Lewiston. Activities included a bounce house, water slides, balloons and face-painting. Pathway offers a free weeklong summer day camp for youths each summer, but many children are left out because of the lack of transportation, said Chris Pope, director of the Root Cellar, an inner-city ministry in Lewiston. Pope, Pathway children’s pastor Bob Nailor and Pierson gathered volunteers to bring the fun to the kids.
