PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — The top official from New England’s power grid operator is coming to Maine to discuss the opportunity — and challenges — presented by wind power.
Gordon van Welie, president and CEO of ISO New England Inc., will join other New England experts discussing renewable energy development on Monday in Portland. Van Welie will talk about power grid improvements and outline New England’s potential for development of renewable power sources.
Last fall, New England’s governors endorsed a plan calling for up to a third of the region’s electric power to come from wind by 2030. But that’ll require a new network of high-voltage transmission lines to move the energy from remote wind turbines to market.
