LIVERMORE FALLS — An emergency search of the Androscoggin River below the Route 4 bridge connecting the towns of Livermore and Livermore Falls late Thursday, ended without incident, a spokeswoman for the Livermore Falls Police Department said Friday.

Amanda Leclerc, an administrative assistant with the department, reading from a prepared statement said a report from driver on the bridge of a person climbing over the bridge railing at about 8:30 p.m. prompted the police to investigate.

“Evidence at the scene showed that a person had been standing on a ledge by the streetlight located in the middle of the bridge,” Leclrec said. “No one saw the subject jump from the bridge so the search was performed as a safety precaution only.”

Firefighters from both the Livermore Falls and Livermore fire departments with assistance from workers at Verso Paper Co., conducted the search of the river near the bridge, Leclerc said.  But as of 10:15 a.m. Friday there had been no reports of a missing person in the area, Leclerc said. Police continue to investigate.
