The Main Street Beautification Project work will begin Monday, July 26 and has a completion date of November, 2010.

St. Laurent & Sons from Lewiston was awarded the contract for this project. In consideration of traffic delays, there will be cones down the west side of Main Street, which is where St. Laurent is planning to begin their work first. Construction will begin at the corner of Main and Academy Streets and continue westbound. There may be a slight lane shift, but vehicles will not be going into the opposing traffic. There will be flaggers to assist St. Laurent trucks in and out of traffic as well as assist motorists visiting local businesses in the area during the duration of the work.

The project will consist of reconstruction of the existing sidewalk on both sides of Main Street from Academy Street to the Little Androscoggin River Bridge. The scope of work also includes construction of a new esplanade on the north side of Main Street adjacent to the retaining wall, installation of street lighting, landscaping, and adjustments to the existing storm drain system.

To avoid traffic delays, drivers may want to seek alternative routes. As always, for a complete update on all construction projects and other news, please visit us at www.auburnmaine.gov.
