LISBON FALLS — An interesting contest has just closed between W. W. Brown, the barber, and Bailey Foster, both of this village. Both are good checker players and last week they arranged for a 20 game contest. This was finished Monday night with Mr. Foster the winner. The score was six games for Foster, five for Brown and nine draws. The prize is a trip to New Meadows Inn and a shore supper which will be furnished by Mr. Brown. This gives the championship of Androscoggin County to Mr. Foster.

Two firms submitted bids Friday to redevelop the former Grand Trunk Railroad depot into office space while at the same time preserving the building’s historic nature.

City Purchasing Agent Norman Beauparlant said Robert Gladu of Gladu Roofing at 48 Oxford St. and H. E. McCann Foods at 95 Lincoln St. submitted proposals to re-use the historic depot, located at 103 River St.

“Both are proposing to rehabilitate the building and make office space within the structure.” said Beauparlant. He added that McCann indicated it may include some retail space within the building.
