NORWAY — A Main Street tree, which one town official said looked more like a bush, was deemed to be limiting drivers’ sight and has been trimmed back.
The plant was posing a hazard to motorists as they attempted to pull out of the Cumberland Farms parking lot.
“It doesn’t really look like a tree,” said Selectman Russ Newcomb.
Newcomb told selectmen at a recent Board of Selectman’s meeting that he would like the town’s Tree Warden Tish Carr to take a look at the plant to see what can be done to make it less of a hazard when motorists try to enter Main Street from the store’s parking lot.
Norway Downtown President Andrea Burns said that every effort should be made to keep the downtown area “green” but if the tree has received severe pruning or improper care, proper landscaping should be implemented. Numerous trees have been planted along Main Street over the past few years.
Town Manager David Holt said this week that the tree warden inspected the tree and the resolution was to trim it back.
