SUMNER — On Monday, Aug. 2, townspeople will vote on 37 articles and a proposed budget of $703,200 at theit annual town meeting.

The budget would be an increase over the current one of approximately $20,000, which includes the cost of a new fire department tanker with pump. The town would pay for the balance of the cost of the truck with  carryover funds. The carryover is $97,144 and the amount needed for a new tanker from K& T Fire Equipment Apparatus Sales & Service of Island Falls is a total of $174,830.

The present tanker has been retired due to safety problems.

Because of the recent revaluation, Town Clerk Susan Runes said it would be impossible to know a mill rate at this time but the town is proposing a budget that will not require a tax increase.

Due to the revaluation, some people could see a slight increase, while others will see a decrease and some will remain the same.

Voters will also decide on one of three options for ambulance coverage.

Tri-Town Ambulance and Rescue Service and Buckfield Rescue could cover specified areas in the town.

Buckfield Rescue could cover the entire town.

There could be an interlocal agreement with Tri-Town, where the town would have part ownership in Tri-Town and contract with Buckfield Rescue for coverage to a specified part of the town.

Incumbent Selectman Mark Silber is running unopposed for selectman, as is Jim Keach for road commissioner and John W. Philips Jr. for RSU 10 Board of Directors.

The meeting will take place at 7 p.m on Monday, Aug. 2, in the Hartford-Sumner Elementary School.
