LEWISTON — La Rencontre will meet at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 6, at the Franco-American Heritage Center at 46 Cedar St. At the event, a meal will be followed with performances by Fernande Caron-Cyr and piano accompanist, Paul Caron. The meal will include homemade haddock chowder, chef’s summer salad with ham and chicken, dessert and beverage. The cost of the meal is $7 each person. Patrons are encouraged to speak only French during the two-hour meal and entertainment in the newly-renovated Heritage Hall.
Caron-Cyr, born in Lewiston and a graduate of St. Dominic’s, has performed in community theater musicals such as “Showboat” and “My Fair Lady.” As a vocalist, she is a cantor and a member of the St. Philips Church choral group.
Caron is a native of Lewiston, growing up in the Gas Patch section next to the large tank and ball near Locust Street. He went to St. Mary’s School and was a member of St. Mary’s Church. His musical experience began when his mother taught him “The Midnight Fire Alarm March” on the piano when he was 4 years old. He also listened, played music with his uncles and learned the stories of the mills and life in Lewiston from his extended family. All of these experiences influenced him and helped him in writing the words and music for “Lewiston: A New Home.”
Other music credits include writing songs for the Public Theatre and Lewiston-Auburn Community Theatre. He has also written liturgical music including a Mass for Holy Family Church.
Everyone is invited to attend and reservations can be made by calling Claudette Violette at 786-6936 or the center at 783-1585.
