Documentary

LEWISTON — The Lewiston Auburn Community Forest Board in conjunction with the Maine Forest Service, Bates College and the Stanton Bird Club, will present the documentary film “Lurking in the Trees” at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, July 15, in room 204 at the Carnegie Science Building, Bates College.

The film was produced by the US Forest Service and describes the discovery of the Asian long-horned beetle in Worcester, Mass., in 2008. The effort to contain the beetle has resulted in the destruction of 25,000 shade trees in Worcester. Alison Kinoti of the forest service will be on hand to discuss the risk to forests locally from the invasive species.

The film will be followed by a brief panel discussion. There is no charge and all are welcome to attend.
