What a glorious day for gold at Riverside Municipal Golf Course for the second and final round of the Charlie’s Portland Maine Open.

After a blistering 63 in the first round, Dustin Cone is in command, but has a pair of golfers just two shots off the pace to begin the day. With a two-day format, anyone in the final four groups has a legitimate shot to capture this 93rd edition of this prestigious event.

Follow along here for periodic updates throughout the day.

6:00 p.m. – Our last post of the day, Cone held on for the 1-shot win over Robert Roylance of Florida (formerly of OOB) and Mark Stevens, who finished birdie-birdie. Thanks for following, and join us next week for updates from the Maine Amateur.

4:05 p.m. – Cone continues to lead through his 14th hole of the day, but people have made things interesting. Tim Desmarais had it to -10 until a pair of bogeys on 14 and 15 dropped him back, and the lead in the clubhouse has now changed. Eric Egloff, a perennial contender here, has vaulted into the lead at -8 after a 6-under 66. Elliott now sits in second in the clubhouse at -7 after his own 66. Word on the street is that Cape Arundel’s Sammy Marzenell is flirting with -8, too, and Stevens is 1-under on his round, also sitting at -8. Could we have a playoff? Perhaps. Stay tuned.

2:26 p.m. – The final groups are on 9 and 10. Interesting first nine for the leaders. Dustin Cone is 1-over through eight and is now only one in front of both Stevens and a surprising Desmarais, who is in the next-to-last group and is 2-under on his round through nine. Kampmann is also 1-over and is two back, while Sandell is three back at 1-over on the day, as well. Of those who have finished, John Elliot was out early and posted a 6-under 66 to finish in the clubhouse at -7, and has the lead while he waits for the on-course leaders to play the back nine.

12:09 p.m. – Jason Parajeckas proved this morning that low scores are out there. He fired a 5-under 67 this morning after a 73 yesterday to post a -4 140 total for the two days. He should lead in the clubhouse for a short while. The lead group is readying to tee off.

11:52 a.m. – John Bauman is the early leader in the clubhouse, with a 2-under 70 to post a 1-over 145 for the two days. Bauman, an amateur from Kennebunk, will be one of the players to watch at next week’s Maine Amateur at Kebo Valley.
