HARTFORD — The Hartford Town Hall was buzzing with activity on Friday as members of the Hartford Heritage Society prepared for their Heritage Days celebration on Saturday.
There was more activity than usual as members set about displaying forty period costumes which were donated by Christine Cornish, owner of Drapeaus Costumes of Lisbon Falls.
Arlene Nason was busy entering all of the costumes on the computer as she tells about a Mother Jones costume display. Nason said that Mother Jones was a labor leader organizer and an activist who lived from 1830 until 1930. In 1905, she helped found the International Workers of the World.
“All of the costumes donated as well as Beth Allen’s reproductions of clothing from 1700 to 1800 will be on display Saturday at the Town Hall,” said Nason.
Nason points across the room to a fainting couch that has been recovered by member Doreen Maxwell and a hand stitched quilt from 1898.
Hartford Heritage Day will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the J.& O. Irish Museum and the Hartford Town Hall. There will be lots of fun and food for all ages.
