NORWAY — Russ Newcomb has announced his campaign for House District 95, which includes the towns of Greenwood, Norway, Waterford and West Paris.
Newcomb, now in his fourth three-year term as on the Norway Board of Selectman, also served the last eight years on the Oxford County Advisory Committee, according to a release issued by the candidate.
Two years ago Newcomb was elected to the Maine Municipal Association’s Legislative Policy Committee, representing the towns of state Senate District 13.
Prior to being elected selectman, Newcomb served on both the Roads and Budget committees for the town of Norway.
“I feel that all of the experiences gained on these boards and committees will be very valuable serving in Augusta,” Newcomb said in a prepared statement. “As a legislator I will have to deal with many of the same issues as in municipal government, though on a larger scale.”
Newcomb is a lifelong resident of Norway and a 1975 graduate of Oxford Hills High School. He and his wife Shelley members of the Norway Fire Department and the Norway Firemen’s Relief Association.
The Newcombs enjoy hunting and fishing and have been long time supporters of the Norway Trackers Snowmobile Club, the release stated. Newcomb owns an auto repair shop on Main Street in Norway and has also operated a snowplowing and sanding business for over 25 years.
Newcomb is available by phone at 743-5699 or e-mail at russhell@roadrunner.com.
