LEWISTON, Maine (AP) — The Lewiston Police Department has a new online mapping service which they say gives the public a way to stay informed about incidents happening in their neighborhoods.

The free mapping service provides offense and arrest data dating back to January 2009 in an interactive format.

The information is updated daily and will eventually span back to two years of records. Citizens can also sign up for important emergency alerts or receive automated e-mails about crimes that are happening in their neighborhood.

Pick up the Sun Journal tomorrow for more information about this service.
