LEWISTON — Longtime resident and local performer Daniel E. “Nick” Knowlton will seek the mayor’s job in November’s ballot.

He plans to launch his campaign officially at 11 a.m. Tuesday on the steps of Lewiston City Hall.

In a written statement, Knowlton said his enthusiasm and energy make him a good candidate for the job.

He “feels his representation of being a motivator and cheerleader is how the Mayor of Lewiston best represents, by the statutes of this city’s charter, what a Mayor’s role should be,” Knowlton wrote. He sees his position “as an ambassador who represents the pride of all the hard-working men, women, children and businesses of this great City of Lewiston.”

Knowlton also called for all newly-elected councilors and the mayor to attend a Maine Municipal Association course for new councilors to insure that all opportunities to develop policy and enact them into law is in the best interest of the community and the citizens of Lewiston.

Knowlton has volunteered for numerous fundraising programs and local organizations, including the Heart Walk, the March of Dimes, Relay for Life and the Abused Women’s Advocacy Project.

He participated in the city’s bids for the All-America City ranking in 2006 and 2007 and worked with the city’s Youth Advisory Council on the U BOOZE U LOOZE campaign. He is past president of the Liberty Festival and has been a judge for the Shining Stars program for the past five years.
