NORWAY — Power along Lake Pennesseewassee was lost Thursday morning after a minivan hit a power pole and rolled over.

Beth Springer, a supporting staffer for the Norway Police Department, said a 2006 Ford van driven by 45-year-old Bruce Swett of Waterford rolled onto its side after it hit a utility pole. The van was heading toward Norway along Route 118. Chief Dennis Yates of the Norway Fire Department said the accident occurred near the intersection of Damon Road.

Springer said Swett’s wife, 49-year-old April Swett, was able to get out of the vehicle, but Bruce Swett was not. The Paris Fire Department was called in to help extricate him. Yates said the van had rolled onto its side, and that wires were down near the vehicle.

Bruce Swett was treated at Stephens Memorial Hospital and released, a nursing supervisor said Friday night.

Pace Ambulance and the Oxford Fire Police also responded to the scene. Traffic was detoured onto secondary roads while responders worked at the scene.
