Dear Sun Spots: Thank you for the expert work you do in finding
as much information and help as you do. Now, I would like to see if you
can get and print the recipe for orange cream whoopie pies that was on
Channel 6’s “207” program on July 15. It was done by Amy Bouchard.

I do not have access to a computer so I could not get the information that way. — M.A.G., No Town.

Answer: Amy
Bouchard of Wicked Whoopie Pies by Isamax Snacks was happy to share
her recipe that was featured on “207.”

What started as a one-woman operation 15 years ago, with Bouchard baking and selling the whoopie pies from her home in Gardiner, has turned into a larger operation with three bake shops. Amy’s family works in the shops as well; husband David runs the customer service and shipping departments, son Maxx works on the baking/production team and retail shop and daughter Isabella helps out in the shop.

Their team of bakers produce about 20 different varieties of Wicked Whoopie Pies. Visit one of the shops located at
5 Mechanic St., Gardiner; 621 Maine Ave., Farmingdale; and 32 Main St., Freeport.

Ingredients:
3 cups all purpose flour, 2 teaspoons baking powder, ½ teaspoon
baking soda, ½ teaspoon salt, 2 large eggs, 2 large egg whites, ¾
cup frozen orange juice concentrate, ¼ cup water, ½ cup vegetable
shortening, 1½ cup granulated sugar, 1 tablespoon grated orange
peel, optional: 2 to 3 drops red food coloring with 3 to 5 drops yellow
food coloring.

Method: Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mix
sugar and shortening together until well blended, then add eggs, water,
orange juice and orange peel. Mix flour, baking soda, baking powder and
salt together in separate bowl, then slowly add the flour to the mix
scraping down the sides of the mixing bowl. Add the food coloring until
well blended.

On greased or parchment paper-lined cookie sheet,
place rounded spoonful of batter at least 2 inches apart, just like
baking cookies. Bake for 9 to 12 minutes.

When cooled, spoon heaping spoonful of whoopie filling in the center of the whoopie cakes just like making a sandwich.

Whoopie filling ingredients:
1½ cups vegetable shortening, 4 cups confectioners sugar, 4
tablespoons milk, 4 tablespoons flour, 6 heaping tablespoons
marshmallow fluff, 2 to 4 tablespoons vanilla.

Method: Beat all ingredients together for 5 to 7 minutes at medium to high speed until fluffy.

Dear Sun Spots: Rosemary Clooney did not write “Suzy Snowflake.” According to ASCAP, the song is by Roy C. Bennett and Sid Tepper. — No Name, No Town.

Answer: You are correct. The Christmas song, made popular by Clooney in 1951, was written by Bennett and Tepper. Sun Spots supplied the incorrect information in the July 25 column.
