Dear Sun Spots: Quite a while ago, there was an article in the Sun Journal about a group of women who gathered to embroider together. I just love to do embroidery, but find it lonely at times. I would love to meet once a week with other women who would like work on our crafts together.
Is there such a group in the Twin Cities’ area who do this? If not, I would love to start such a group. Would there be anyone who would be interested in gathering together and chit chat as we do embroidery together? Or, any other craft one would like to do? — Cecilia, Lewiston
Dear Sun Spots: Is there anyone out there who has paperback books of the Western Series “Cheyenne,” by Judd Cole, “White Squaw,” by E.J. Hunter, and “Cutter” by Duff McCoy? Also, any books by Charles West? I can’t find these anywhere locally.
Speaking of old, where could anyone get a DVD set of “The Cheyenne Show,” and “The Virginian,” with Clint Walker? The whole season from 1955 to 1962?
I have the complete first season of “Cheyenne.” Another good show was “The Big Valley.” I have season 1 and 2 of these. I’d like the rest.
I miss all these old Westerns on TV. So many others do, too!
I belong to a DVD club and even they can’t get them. Any help from anyone would be so appreciated! — No name, no town
Answer: These old books and TV series are available from a very modern source: Amazon.com
The online bookstore has 12 Judd Cole novels available now, including “Blood on the Arrows,” for 69 cents, “Arrow Keeper,” for 1 cent, “Blood on the Plains,” for $2.06, “Bloody Bones Canyon,” for a penny, and “Comancheros,” for 15 cents, among others.
There are dozens and dozens of E.J. Hunter paperbook books from the White Squaw series, including a 10-book block of titles for $29.99, and “Here comes the Bride,” for $1.25, “Bullwhipped Beauty,” for $4.80, and “Bareback Beauty,” for 39 cents.
There are also many titles available by Charles West, including “Luke’s Gold,” for $1.11, “Lawless Prairie,” for $1.09, and “Duel at Low Hawk,” for $1.41.
The complete first season of Cheyenne is available on DVD, as are other seasons, for as little as $2.35.
Amazon.com also has a good selection of DVDs for “The Virginian,” and “The Big Valley,” including the complete first season of “The Big Valley,” for $10.01, and the complete second season for $13.89. There are also DVDs available for other TV Westerns, including “Wagon Train,” “Best of Laredo,” and others.
If you don’t have a computer to shop Amazon.com at home, you can go to your local public library for access to the Internet. Librarians are very helpful in navigating the Web, but you will need to set up an Amazon.com account and use a credit card to pay for your purchases. Before you do that, though, check with the library to see if you can get these books and DVDs either at your local library or through Maine’s inter-state book and movie borrowing system.
