Dear Sun Spots: Does the Tambrands factory give tours of their facility?
If so, what are the days? I have watched FOX News several times but
have not seen Dan Senor, Campbell Brown’s husband. Is he on at a
certain time? Is Giovanna Bechard coming back on Channel 13? I miss
her. Is the Marden’s lady going to make any personal appearances
locally anytime soon? — B.L.P., No Town.
Answer: In response to your first question, tours are not available at the Tambrands factory in Auburn.
Dan Senor is still an analyst with FOX News, but Sun Spots can’t find specific times he is on the air, only that he contributes to programs when necessary.
According to the Web site for Birdie Googins, aka the “Marden’s Lady,” she has two appearances in our area this fall. She’ll be
appearing at the Community Little Theater, 30 Academy St., Auburn, at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4, for a fundraiser show for the Oddfellows and Rebekahs Home of
Maine. Tickets can be purchased at CLT and are $12 for adults and $10 for students. More information is available by calling the box office at 783-0958 or www.laclt.com.
The Oddfellows and Rebekahs Home of Maine will also have another fundraiser show at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 18, at CLT. The show will feature comedian Bob Marley and tickets, for $20, should be available in the next couple of weeks.
Googins will also appear at the Araxine Wilkins Sawyer Foundation (the Sawyer Memorial), 371 Sawyer Road, Greene, on Friday, Sept. 11. Shows will be offered at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. The shows are free and no reservations are necessary.
According to the Marden’s Web site, www.mardenssurplus.com, she was
born and raised in Norway, Maine, and currently resides in Scarborough.
She holds a master’s degree from Boston University as a playwright.
In response to your last question, WGME Channel
13 reporter Giovanna Bechard should be back to work by the time your letter is
published. According to her biography on the WGME Web site, Bechard “is happy to be back in Maine where her reporting career started in Bangor. While Giovanna is originally from New Jersey, she married a Mainer and spent seven years in New England before leaving for Anchorage, Alaska.”
In Alaska, she covered everything from glacier hiking to state politics. After leaving Alaska, she moved to Virginia Beach, where she resided for more than three years. She is married to a News 13 photographer, Brian. The couple and their chocolate lab Maggie love hiking and spending time near the ocean.
Dear Sun Spots: My bathtub is in need of refinishing. I have checked
the Yellow Pages in the phone book and have had no luck. Do you know of
anyone who refinishes bathtubs? Thank you for your help. — No Name,
Auburn.
Dear Sun Spots: Regarding the Russ Dillingham photo and article about the turtle,
Mother Theresa, can anyone identify the species? I recently rescued the
same type of turtle near Taylor Pond and could not figure out exactly what
it was. — Deb, Auburn.
Answer: Sun Spots hopes there may be some turtle experts out there who can help identify the turtle. We sent a copy of the photo to the Gulf of Maine Research Institute and while they don’t have any turtle experts on staff, two nonexperts felt that Mother Theresa is a snapping turtle. They referred us to the California Tortoise and Turtle Club for more assistance, but we haven’t received a reply at the time of publication. You can visit their site at www.tortoise.org.
