MEXICO – Selectmen unanimously granted a one-year contract to John Madigan to serve as Mexico’s town manager for the fifth year.

The action was taken following a 40-minute closed session to discuss components of the contract that begins July 1.

Madigan received a 3 percent salary hike, the same as all municipal employees this year. His salary will go to $58,000, up from $56,500 for fiscal year 2008-09.

Also, he was granted one additional week of vacation, from four weeks to five weeks.

In other matters on Wednesday, assessor Rob Stevens said new property values are scheduled to be mailed starting the end of July. The town has been undergoing a revaluation.

In reorganizational matters, more than a dozen residents were appointed or reappointed to various boards and committees. Among the new appointees were Mabel Merrill, an unsuccessful candidate for selectman earlier this month, who was named to the Recreation Board, and Peter DeFilipp who will serve on the Budget Committee. Three positions remain open on both boards.

Madigan said the state revenue sharing will be about $68,000 less than originally estimated. The property tax rate will likely be set at the Aug. 19 selectmen’s meeting.
