TURNER — A Norway man was hospitalized Wednesday after flipping a rented boom truck through a utility pole and into the woods along Upper Street.
Police said Jeremy Minnerly, 21, suffered broken bones and other injuries when he lost control of the truck on a sharp curve at about 10 a.m.
He was taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston where he was treated and later released.
Police said Minnerly was driving the boom truck north, toward Schrepp’s Corner Store, and failed to slow down in time to negotiate a sharp curve.
The truck skidded off the roadway and Maine State Police Trooper Nate Jamo said it travelled approximately 560 feet before coming to the rest in the woods beside the road. On its way, the truck snapped an Oxford Networks pole in half and mowed through several trees.
Police blocked off a long section of the roadway for more than six hours as rescue crews responded, a wrecker service attempted to remove the truck and utility companies made repairs.
“They had to cut a lot of trees and limbs just to get at the truck,” Jamo said.
Police said the boom truck had been rented from Rent-It, a rental company in Auburn. The extent of damage to the truck was not known.
